Holy Thursday

“While they were eating, he took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to them, and said, ‘Take; this is my body.’ Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, and all of them drank from it.”  Mark 14:22-23

when we had eaten
our fill, we got up
from the table, brushing
the crumbs of you off
our laps, and
as you turned to go
out the door, we quickly
emptied the half-full cups
hoping our senses might be
dulled enough to let us
sleep
while your tears dropped
down into the dust
of that shadowed garden
blooming into black roses
