December 3rd

"But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.” 2 Peter 3:8

no matter how big the spaces
our calendars always are full,
our clocks, especially internal,
tick louder the closer we come
to the end of a day, week, month,
our candles burn lower even
as the nights grow longer.
but you, Crafter of time,
simply yawn, and snap,
a thousand years pass.
remind us that you are not tied
to our seconds/minutes/hours,
but you spread compassion
across generations until it becomes
the way of life for all.
and while we squirm like children
who can’t wait to unwrap hope,
may we learn to trust
that you are never in a hurry,
never late, never finished.
in this in-between time
may we prove more ready
than restless,
and more eager to put
worry out in the bin
to make space for wonder.
