“And again he said, ‘To what should I compare the kingdom of God?’” Luke 13:20

your Beloved Community
is like the poll workers
who volunteer their time
for long hours and low pay
because they believe in
democracy.
your Beloved Community
is like the students marching
40 minutes to cast their ballots
when the powerful denied
an early voting site on their campus.
your Beloved Community
is like the folks standing in line
and always insisting that
an older person, or someone
with disabilities go ahead
of them to the voting booth,
without wondering, asking,
or caring about politics.
your Beloved Community
is like those who care enough
about their communities
and nations to be good citizens
without relinquishing their
primary allegiance to you,
O God.
