border crossing

“During the night Paul had a vision: there stood a man of Macedonia pleading with him and saying, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us.’” Acts 16:9

at the edge of fear,

wondering if we dare

put our toes in the water

to test if they will hold us.

on the cliffs overlooking

the abyss of the future,

thinking about how far down

down it is, if we miss our step.

on the border of polarization,

doubting that anything we

might say or do could build

bridges to the other side,

we could choose to ignore

those who are calling for help

or we can become illegal migrants

carrying grace, hope, and justice

on our back as we take that first

step.
