when the narcissists
expect undying fealty,
may we keep our bond
with you in those moments.
when the purveyors of snark
offer us special deals on
the cruelty we could inflict
on the most vulnerable,
may we continue to rummage
through the bargain bin filled
with your grace and hope.
when evil wraps its arm
around our shoulders and
begins to whisper sweet
nothingness into our ears,
may we turn and say, 'sorry,
we are already spoken for.'
