when i think i am
destined to be an influencer,
call me to be insignificant.
when i focus too much
on how many likes i accumulate,
call me to walk with the lonely.
when i want a desk
in the big corner office,
call me to be the night manager
at the homeless shelter.
when i want to fill my walls
with plaques, diplomas, awards,
and photos with the richly famous,
call me to be as forgotten as those
i rush past on my ill-chosen
path to imagined glory and success.
