August 13th

 “Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, ‘You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.’” Mark 10:21

with a sigh,
we convince ourselves
(which we are so good
at doing) that
it is not our portfolios,
our bank accounts,
our overflowing pantries
or walk-in closets
we can’t get a foot into
that you are talking about.
so,
with a sigh, we shuffle our feet
trying to follow you
(because surely, surely
you will need this stuff
somewhere down the road).
and,
with a sigh,
you continue to love us
waiting for us to realize
that common sense
may just be what we lack
more than anything else.
