holy tuesday

“He who rescued us from so deadly a peril will continue to rescue us; on him we have set our hope that he will rescue us again,” 2 Corinthians 1:10

if we have the
common sense to
listen to the old stories,
we will know that our help
comes from those we least expect:
not the wealthy and wise
the powerful and profound,
but the stockers in grocery stores
working the graveyard shift,
the truck drivers hauling stock
over emptier and emptier roads,
the weary nurses, the frazzled doctors,
the lab workers, the chaplains in crammed hospitals,
and all the other overlooked, unsung,
underpaid, working-double-shifts
heroes and heroines.
