in the politician who sets aside pride
to serve with kind humility,
in the privileged who are willing
to reveal their ordinary, fumbling selves,
in all who have authority but
choose to shelter the vulnerable
from the bitter storms of life
and speak truth like fresh spring air,
in those who sit exalted on benches
yet act to cradle the weary
in arms of merciful justice,
your beloved community is glimpsed
as hope twinkles in
in the summer night like fireflies
and children hear the soft
footsteps of grace
walking through their
neighborhoods.
