watch, comes the whisper
from God’s heart.
watch
lest life’s largesse blinds you,
lest that full pantry clouds
the memory of empty stomachs.
in the comfort of privilege
it is easy to forget the wilderness,
to brush off that dusty grace
which held you as your souls
murmured while thunder shook
mountains.
remember that hunger
which inspired you to pray,
the chronic
thirst
that carved trust in your
throat like a psalm.
take care when you
spend so much time
remembering the lean years
that you forget
the Giver
when your hands
can’t hold everything
you now have.
