“An argument arose among them as to which one of them was the greatest” Luke 9:46
oh, the arguments!
as if we are on the ladder
to success in a Fortune 500 company.
and as we crank up the rhetoric
or play stab-in-the-back games
Jesus comes into the board room,
dusty feet and grace-stained robe,
carrying a child, and whispers,
in a voice which sounds like
a loaf of bread being broken:
‘greatness has no name
on the door, it simply waits
as long as it takes,
sitting on the floor,
ready to give a horse ride,
read a story, play jacks.’
so
just step away from the ladder
come sit on the floor
see if you can tell
God
from the rest of the little ones.
