as we close our ears
to the single parent
looking for a job, you whisper,
‘Ephphatha;’
as we close our hands
in fists of rage instead
of welcoming love, you croak,
‘Ephphatha;”
as we close our mouths
when the powerful are
stepping on the vulnerable, you shout,
‘Ephphatha!’
all the while looking
up to heaven as if to say,
‘see what i have work with?’
