when cruelty's Chillblains
slow me down in trying
to follow you with grace,
put your hand under my elbow
so i can keep trying.
when fear's frost settles
upon my heart and it begins
to creak and crack in the night,
warm it with Spirit's breath.
when the wintry grip of death
seems to want to never
let go of my soul, swaddle me
in the shawl of resurrection hope
and place me in the cradle
of your abiding love.
