O you who are enthroned in the heavens!" Psalm 123:1
we do not need
a Webb or Hubble
to find you in the heavens,
but, if we open our eyes,
we will see you
in the little child sharing
a sandwich with the
rough sleeper on the bench,
we will notice you
(just out of the corner
of our eye, if we are quick)
listening to the same story
your aging neighbor has told
you a hundred times before,
we will observe you
quietly bringing justice
to those forgotten by the
powerful and the politicians
who are too busy posturing
for the cameras and offering
sound bites quickly dismissed
after the votes are counted.
