yes, we are called
to love God with all
that we are and might be,
but this is love: to confront
that part of our self which
considers itself superior
to all, even God.
yes, we are to feed the
needy that we meet,
but this also is love:
to nourish that hunger
deep within us for value,
for affirmation, for grace
that others believe we
should not have.
yes, we are to see
the enemy as kin from
a different family,
but this is love as well,
to know that the one
who can do the worst
to us is deep inside of us
longing to be reconciled
once and for all.
