you take the black
robes off our shoulders,
you strip the walls
of all our diplomas,
you donate all our books
to the local library,
you take our gavels
with our names engraved
on brass plates, and
point us to where
the defendants are sitting,
saying,
'go, listen to their stories,
hold their hands,
wipe their tears away,
look deep into their souls.
and then, decide if you
are any different from them
and have the right
to render any sort of
verdict.'
