Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications!" Psalm 130:1-2
'how ya' doing?'
comes the rhetorical question
at the checkout of a simple prayer
and as i rotely reply, 'fine,'
the response is pushed to me
and i turn to walk away, but
you hear that hitch, that quiver,
that something in my voice
and quickly put the closed
sign up and lean your arms
on the counter, asking,
'what's going on? really?'
and i see that rope ladder
being lowered so
i can begin to climb out
of that abyss which has been
my home for far too long.
