“By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.” Galatians 5:22-23
and yet when
we attach conditions
too numerous to mention
to our love,
we are only generous
when it suits our interests,
we have come to believe
that patience is as outmoded
as caring for the forgotten,
self-control keeps us
from being able to be
the free spirits we imagine,
and faithfulness is
for all the dinosaurs
around us,
why do we wonder
that the Spirit’s fruits
rot before anyone picks
them?
