the baby squeezing our finger

as if testing its strength;

the songs kids make up

on the days filled with rain;

the drawings plastered

all over the front of refrigerators;

the crushing hug as

one graduates to adulthood;

the questions about life and death,

of hopes and dreams turned to ashes,

of unexpected chances and sudden losses;

in the hand that gently clings to ours

as we lay in hospice –

from beginning to the end

(and beyond) your Word

has been telling us of

grace, hope, peace, and joy
