“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil

slowly pulling the quilt made
from squares of devilishness
over our heads, the wrongdoers
assure us over and over
it will keep us warm and safe;
so
you turn on your flashlight
under the shadowy covers,
whispering,
‘follow me; i know where
the good scissors are kept;
we can undo all the stitches
and turn the squares into
a rag rug for the mud room.’
