did we notice you
watching us as you
wondered if we might
offer friendship to a stranger
or were we too busy
tiktoking our way through life?
did we offer you
a sideways glance
as you were sliding deeper
into disappointment after disappointment
or can we claim you were
not in our peripheral field?
did we see you waving
a tentative hand like a lonely
teenager hoping that a mate
might come over and chat
or were our eyes to bleary
from binge watching flicks
which net us nothing?
as this year comes to an end,
open our eyes, Watchful God,
open our eyes.
