may we stop offering you
a continual feast of baloney
ground from the foolishness
and fears of our lives.
may we cease obsessing
over all those folks called the
Greatest of All Time by an
adoring public and an even
more sycophantic media.
but
like you,
may we listen to those whom
the rest of the world ignores
and exalt the people who serve
the hungry, the rough sleepers,
the forgotten, the broken
without seeking any recognition.
