we take that first
shuddering breath and
the Spirit laughs in delight.
we crawl, then walk, run
full out in delight, begin
to feel twinges in our
knees and hips, and finally
end up moving as slowly
as if we were back crawling,
and Jesus holds our hand
every step of the way.
we fear the dust bunnies
under the bed and the
clothes breathing in the closet,
we are anxious about our
first day in school or at work,
our first date and kiss,
we lie awake waiting to
hear the kids come home
and we wonder what home
will be like beyond this life
and you whisper as you always
have, 'i told you. don't be afraid.'
