First Sunday in Lent

"As they go through the valley of Baca 

    they make it a place of springs;
    the early rain also covers it with pools."  Psalm 84:6

those grand abysses

carved from the sweat

of our fevered worries

in the middle of the night,

you will divert streams 

of water to sustain all

the life gathered there.

those death valleys 

which burn the souls

of our lives as we walk

through them most days,

you will shower with 

your tears to cool 

our desiccated hearts. 

for you have been 

through the wilderness

and know the way out.
