the two little girls
spinning and whirling
around on the dance floor
at the wedding, as the
grandparents hold each other
up trying not to get knocked over,
the little boy pulling out
every pot and lid and spoon
to practice becoming a drummer
for the heavy aluminum band,
the 13-year-old patiently
practicing the piano scales
over and over and over
until the cat begs to go outside . . .
all praise you, Gentle God,
all praise you.
